Lend a helping hand at the SCAD Community Garden, Friday, October 7th from 9-11 a.m. by tending to garden beds, learning about planting and sowing, local pollinators, and the importance of sustainability in the garden. Lillian Brown and Stephen Worsham, SCAD SERVE Fellows, will be leading the event.
Volunteers will harvest produce, maintain the gardens, and tend to the plants growing this season. SCAD Back40 and the Community Garden produces tons of produce and honey that is donated to the kitchen of Park Place Outreach, a local youth emergency shelter focused on "ensuring youth have safety, guidance, and caring adults." Help make this possible by volunteering your time!
The Community Garden is next to the Mailing Center.
Prepare for working in the sun as well, a hat will be helpful for sun protection. Shirts with sleeves and pants or shorts that allow for bending, sitting, and moving is helpful. Wearing a SCAD SERVE shirt or other SCAD on it is helpful for pictures and to create a unified look. Please plan to wear closed toe shoes for your protection. Volunteers should also bring a reusable water bottle to refresh themselves.
All volunteers must be in good health and not experience any symptoms of illness. If you are unwell, do not come to the event! Instead, seek medical attention and contact the SCAD SERVE Fellows, Lillian Brown or Stephen Worsham at lbrown39@student.scad.edu or sworsh20@student.scad.edu.
If you have any questions or concerns, please contact the Farm Manager, Ross Miller at 912.323.4993 or romiller@scad.edu.
