Join SCAD SERVE and help promote a healthy plant community and a sustainable forest in Freedom Park!
Your work will improve the habitat for people who use the green space for recreation and the wildlife that call it home including hand-pulling and cutting invasive plants such as English ivy, Chinese privet, and kudzu in a densely wooded area off trail.
Physical activity such as bending, pulling, lifting, and kneeling is required.
What to wear and bring with you:
Recommended clothing: Long pants and long sleeves are recommended as you will be in close contact with plants that could scratch your skin. All volunteers need closed-toed shoes or boots.
Drinking water in reusable containers: No one-time-use plastic bottles, please.
Allergy medication: If you've experienced life-threatening allergic reactions to insects, please come prepared with your emergency medicine, such as an auto-injector or oral medication. Please notify the coordinator of your need for medication in the case of an allergic attack.
There are no restrooms on site
In forested areas, we sometimes encounter poison ivy, mosquitoes, and yellow jackets. Your coordinator will help you learn to identify any plants or animals of concern and notify you if they see any present in the area.
The event will actually start at 8 a.m, but we are to arrive 15 minutes early to prepare.
Transportation: A bus will be available at the Breeze Way for pick up (1600/Main Building)
The bus leaves campus at 7:15am
We arrive at the location at 7:45am
We start at 8am
