Description

Join SCAD SERVE at Sand Arts Festival Friday, May 3rd, 2024!

All SCAD SERVE volunteers will support the festival by providing a team of volunteers to help return the beach to its pre-festival condition. Our primary responsibility will be to flatten the sand structures and smooth the beach surface, so sea turtle hatchlings can journey from their nests in the dunes to the ocean. This will help nesting sea turtles and other wildlife return to the beach after the event. Trash bags and gloves will be provided to collect litter as well.

Before the "SCAD SERVE Sandcastle Stomp" all volunteers can walk around and view student's works. The winners are announced, around 3:30-4:00 p.m.

We will start stomp all structures and smooth the surface around 5pm when they are finished being displayed.

Volunteers will rely on SCAD Sand Art Shuttles departing from the Hive Bus stop if they do not have alternative forms of transportation to and from the event. Everyone will be provided a SCAD SERVE t-shirt if you do not already have one. Wear shorts or pants you can move, bend, and reach in but do not wear swimwear, please. The weather is sunny and warm, so applying sunscreen is helpful as well as bringing a hat and a reusable water bottle to stay hydrated.

At the conclusion of the event, all volunteers must return to SCAD on the Sand Arts Shuttles provided if they do not have other means of transportation. The last shuttle will be departing from the festival by 6pm.

If you have questions or concerns, please contact Lillian Brown at lbrown39@student.scad.edu. Please email Lillian your shirt size if you don't already own a SCAD SERVE shirt.
