Description

On Sunday, July 11, wrap up the weekend by the seaside collecting litter and debris from the shores of Tybee Island. Volunteers will work independently to collect litter and debris from along the coast line to beautify and renew this ecosystem and protect the plants and wildlife. Under no circumstances will volunteers need to or be required to go in the water. Tybee Clean Beach will provide clean litter collectors and any materials necessary to complete the task. The group will focus on refreshing the area near the pier.

Volunteers will meet at the Hive bus stop (201 W. Boundary St) at 5:30 pm to meet the group and conduct wellness checks. All SCAD Transportation riders MUST wear a mask regardless of vaccination status. The bus will take everyone to Tybee Island and return everyone when the event is over. We anticipate by 9 pm.

Charlie Barron, SCAD SERVE Fellow will be your SERVE Coordinator for this event.

All volunteers must wear appropriate clothing to participate. This includes shoes, t-shirts and pants or shorts that allow for bending, moving, lifting, and a strong potential for getting dirty. Do not wear bathing suits to this activity.  If you have a SCAD shirt or a SCAD SERVE t-shirt, this helps our group keep a unified look. Any volunteer that arrives on site without appropriate attire will be asked to leave. Your well-being and safety is important to us.

The weather Sunday looks sunny and warm, but may change with the incoming storm. Please stay up to date with all SCAD Alerts for event status updates.

For your protection, consider sun screen, bug spray, a hat for sun protection, and a reusable water bottle to refresh yourself away from the group.

All volunteers must register in advance of the event and be in good health, wear PPE in accordance with SCAD COVID-19 protocol, and adhere to all safety protocols by the agency and SCAD.

Any questions or concerns can be addressed directly with Lauren Slaydon, LSlaydon@scad.edu, 912.247.8917.
