Join SCAD SERVE and the SCAD School of Foundation Studies at Sand Arts Festival Friday, May 1st, 2026!
All SCAD SERVE volunteers will support the festival by providing a team of volunteers to help return the beach to its pre-festival condition. Our primary responsibility will be to flatten the sand structures and smooth the beach surface, so sea turtle hatchlings can journey from their nests in the dunes to the ocean. This will help nesting sea turtles and other wildlife return to the beach after the event. Before the "SCAD SERVE Sandcastle Stomp" all volunteers can walk around and view student's works. After the winners are announced, around 4:30-5:00 p.m. we will start stomp all structures and smooth the surface. We will also be picking up any trash left behind and collecting tools.
Date: Friday, May 1, 2026
Time: 4:00-6:00 pm
Attire: Everyone will be provided a SCAD SERVE t-shirt if you do not already have one. Please email SCAD SERVE Fellow Morgan at mspada21@student.scad.edu if you need a shirt. Wear shorts or pants you can move, bend, and reach in but do not wear swimwear, please. The weather is sunny and warm, so applying sunscreen is helpful as well as bringing a hat and a reusable water bottle to stay hydrated.
Transportation: For non-competing students, buses will begin pickup from The Hive, Turner House, and Montgomery House starting at 10:00 a.m. and will take students to Tybee. Students must show proof of a completed trip and transportation liability waiver to enter the bus. Buses bound for Tybee Island will be clearly marked "Sand Arts." Return transportation will be available all day, and the final bus will leave Tybee Island at 6:30 p.m. Students who miss the final scheduled buses back to Savannah will be responsible for arranging and funding their own transportation.
