Lend a helping hand at the SCAD Community Garden, Tuesday and Thursday, July 26 and 28 by tending to garden beds, removing seasonal debris and preparing soil for new late summer crops. SCAD SERVE Fellows will guide volunteers through learning about perennial and annual flowers, local pollinators, and the importance of sustainability in the garden.
Volunteers will work to harvest produce, maintain the gardens, and tend to the plants growing this season. SCADBack40 and the Hive Garden produces tons of produce and honey that is donated to the kitchen of Park Place Outreach, a local youth emergency shelter focused on "ensuring youth have safety, guidance, and caring adults". Help make this possible by volunteering your time.
The Community Garden is right next to the SCAD Mailing Center.
Prepare for working in the sun as well, a hat will be helpful for sun protection. Shirts with sleeves and pants or shorts that allow for bending, sitting, and moving is helpful. Wearing a SCAD SERVE shirt or other SCAD on it is helpful for pictures and to create a unified look. Please plan to wear closed toe shoes for your protection, and masks are required for the bus ride to the farm. Volunteers should also bring a reusable water bottle to refresh themselves at a distance far away from the group.
All volunteers must be in good health prior to the event. Spaces are limited. Please only register if you are confident of your attendance at each event.
