Description

Lend a Helping Hand at SCADBack40, SCAD's very own sustainable, organic, urban farm and apiary on Friday morning from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.  Volunteers are welcome to stay until 4 p.m. to continue supporting farm efforts. Another shuttle will depart from the farm and return to The Hive at 4 p.m. for those who want to stay longer.

*Please bring a lunch with you. We have a cooler and limited snacks but bringing a lunch is encouraged.*

Volunteers will work to harvest produce, maintain the gardens, and tend to the plants growing this season. SCADBack40 produces tons of produce and honey that is donated to the kitchen of Park Place Outreach, a local youth emergency shelter focused on "ensuring youth have safety, guidance, and caring adults". Help make this possible by volunteering your time.

Transportation to the SCADBack40 will be provided. Volunteers will meet in front of SCADfit at 11 a.m. Please wear clothes that will allow you to get dirty, and also to protect you from the natural environment we will be working in. We will be working in gardens and in community with active bee hives. THIS EVENT TAKES PLACE NEAR LIVE BEE HIVES, PLEASE CONSIDER THIS FACT IF YOU HAVE ANY BEE ALLERGIES.

Prepare for working in the sun as well, a hat will be helpful for sun protection. Shirts with sleeves and pants or shorts that allow for bending, sitting, and moving is helpful. Wearing a SCAD SERVE shirt or other SCAD on it is helpful for pictures and to create a unified look. Please plan to wear closed toe shoes for your protection, and masks are required for the bus ride to the farm. Volunteers should also bring a reusable water bottle to refresh themselves at a distance far away from the group. The bus will return volunteers to the Hive by 2:20 p.m. on the first return shuttle and those who want to stay until 4 p.m. can return on the 4 p.m. shuttle from the farm to the Hive area.

All volunteers must be in good health, pass their SCAD daily health screening, and not experience any symptoms of illness. If you are unwell, do not come to the event! Instead, seek medical attention and contact SCAD SERVE Farm Manager, Matt DeRose 912.477.9649.

If you have any questions or concerns, please contact Matt DeRose 912.477.9649
