Needs From: SCAD SERVE

Join Gray's Reef National Marine Sanctuary to build the props for the 2026 MATE ROV Southeast Competition. During the workshops students will build the PVC structural props for the missions that competitors will be completing at the competition. Gray's Reef will provide all materials and instructions on prop building day. 

Date: Saturday, April 4th, 2026

Time: 10:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. (morning shift)

2:00 p.m.- 5:00 p.m. (afternoon shift)

You can sign up for one shift or volunteer all day!

Transportation: Transportation will be provided. The shuttle will be picking up from the Turner bus stop at 9:25 am and dropping back off at 1:30 pm for the morning shift and picking up a second group at 1:30 pm for the afternoon shift. The shuttle will drop off at 5:30 pm. Email Casey to reserve a spot on the bus by Thursday, April 2.

Description: To sign up, please register here and on Hands on Atlanta with your student email. Volunteers are needed! Volunteers will help restore natural areas in parks and greenspaces. Instead of using toxic chemicals that harm natural places, our volunteers work with best practices that are healthiest for the environment as well as providing opportunities for great outdoors experiences and healthy exercise. Jobs include working with hand tools such as clippers, pruning saws, trowels, and shovels. Enjoy time outdoors while restoring greenspaces!

Attire: Advised clothing: Please email Jai at jgrant27@student.scad.edu if you need a SCAD SERVE shirt. Long pants and long sleeves are advised as you will be in close contact with plants that could scratch your skin and soil/mud. All volunteers need closed-toed shoes or boots, clothes that can get dirty.

Transportation: SCAD provides for this event. The bus will arrive in front of Forty at 8:30 am. The ride is of approximately 20 minutes, the bus will be leaving at 8:40 am. If you are running late, please email the site supervisor: jgrant27@student.scad.edu.

Drinking water: We strongly recommend you bring drinking water in reusable containers. No one-time-use plastic bottles, please.

Allergy medication: If you've experienced life-threatening allergic reactions to insects, please come prepared with your own emergency medicine, such as an auto-injector or oral medication. Please notify the coordinator of your need for medication in the case of an allergic attack.

You may also want: Sunscreen and bug spray as needed, snacks as needed (EcoAddendum will not provide any of these items)
