Join SCAD SERVE and the SCAD School of Foundation Studies at Sand Arts Festival Friday, May 5th, 2023!
All SCAD SERVE volunteers will support the festival by providing a team of volunteers to help return the beach to its pre-festival condition. Our primary responsibility will be to flatten the sand structures and smooth the beach surface, so sea turtle hatchlings can journey from their nests in the dunes to the ocean. This will help nesting sea turtles and other wildlife return to the beach after the event.
Before the "SCAD SERVE Sandcastle Stomp" all volunteers can walk around and view student's works. After the winners are announced, around 4:30-5:00 p.m. we will start stomp all structures and smooth the surface.
Volunteers will meet at the Hive Bus Stop at 1:40 p.m. Everyone will be provided a SCAD SERVE t-shirt if you do not already have one. Wear shorts or pants you can move, bend, and reach in but do not wear swimwear, please. The weather is sunny and warm, so applying sunscreen is helpful as well as bringing a hat and a reusable water bottle to stay hydrated.
The bus will depart from The Hive Bus Stop at 2:00 p.m. and bring volunteers to the Sand Arts Festival. At the conclusion of the event, all volunteers must return to SCAD on the SCAD SERVE Shuttle, departing Tybee Island approximately around 5:20-30 p.m. promptly and return to The Hive Bus Stop by 6:00 p.m.
