Volunteer: Ronald McDonald House Adopt-A-Meal Dinner | SAVANNAH |01.19.26The Adopt-A-Meal program provides a much-needed support service to families who are taking care of their sick children, and often don’t have the time, funds, or energy to prepare a healthy, home-cooked meal. After a long day at the hospital or clinic, a hot meal is a welcome gift. SCAD SERVE volunteers will cook and serve a buffet style dinner to families staying at Ronald McDonald House. Gloves must be worn during meal preparation (provided by the House). Prep will start at 4:00pm and dinner will be served at 6:00 pm. For this event we will be working with 40-60 kids, ages ranging from 5-12 years old, to make comic book zines. We will help kids with folding paper, drawing, and ideation, encouraging anyone stuck to make comics involving their family, pets, and/or school. This event will be indoors with seating, bathrooms, and drinking fountains available. The Fellow leading the event will show how to fold zines at the event. Volunteers will assist outreach teams by: -Engaging respectfully with individuals to ask a short set of survey questions that help us collect demographic and housing information. -Providing support materials such as resource cards, snacks, or hygiene kits to those we encounter. Volunteers will not go door-to-door or enter private residences. All activities occur in public spaces and are conducted in pairs or small groups for safety. Training will be provided prior to the count to ensure volunteers feel prepared and understand best practices for engagement. Additionally, along with members of our Street Outreach Team, SPD and CCPD officers will be accompanying each group of volunteers to ensure the safety of volunteers and the individuals volunteers are engaging with. These trees will provide cleaner air, cool shade, and all aroundimproved habitat for humans and wildlife living in our community. Planting tasks include digging holes with shovels/mattocks, untangling roots with your hands, mulching, watering, and cleaning up your area. Physical activity such as bending, lifting, and kneeling is required. Tree planting can be physically strenuous - be ready to break a sweat and get dirty! What to wear and bring with you Gloves: Bring your own work gloves. Recommended clothing: Wear clothes and shoes you don't mind getting muddy. Long pants are recommended as you may be kneeling on the ground. All volunteers need closed-toed shoes or boots, clothes that can get dirty. Tools: Trees Atlanta provides necessary tools, but if you'd like to bring your own, any of the following tools would be helpful: shovels, hand trucks, mattocks, and hand cultivators. Drinking water: We strongly recommend you bring drinking water in reusable containers. No one-time-use plastic bottles, please. Allergy medication: If you've experienced life-threatening allergic reactions to insects, please come prepared with your own emergency medicine, such as an auto-injector or oral medication. Please notify the coordinator of your need for medication in the case of an allergic attack.
