Volunteer: Tybee Beach Cleanup |SAVANNAH | SUNDAY 5.17.26|6:30pm- 7:30 pm

DESCRIPTION:  SCAD SERVE volunteers will wrap up their weekend by the seaside collecting litter and debris from the shores of Tybee Island. Volunteers will work independently to collect litter and debris from along the coast line to beautify and renew this ecosystem and protect the plants and wildlife. Under no circumstances will volunteers need to or be required to go in the water. Tybee Clean Beach will provide clean litter collectors and any materials necessary to complete the task.  SCAD SERVE Fellow Beth Rooklidge, will be leading this event.

TIME: 6:30pm- 7:30pm

WHERE: 1509 Strand Ave, Tybee Island, GA 31328- Meet at the Tybee Island Pier

TRANSPORTATION: Transportation will not be provided. Please drive your own vehicle, carpooling is encouraged. Parking passes will be provided on arrival.

ATTIRE: All volunteers must wear appropriate clothing to participate. This includes shoes, t-shirts and pants or shorts that allow for bending, moving, lifting, and a strong potential for getting dirty. Do not wear bathing suits to participate in this activity. Please wear a SCAD branded t-shirt or a SCAD SERVE t-shirt, this helps our group keep a unified look. Please be sure to check in with Fellow Beth if you need to leave early.

We will inform volunteers in advance of the event if we need to cancel due to inclement weather. Please check your SCAD email to stay up to date with all SCAD SERVE communication.

Visitors of the Wildlife Center will have the opportunity to participate in the hunt and will be provided a printed passport with a list of tasks to complete. Stationed throughout the center, volunteers will stamp the passport with the associated stamp to check off the item on the guests' lists. Volunteers will help collect new and gently used art supplies, non-perishable food, cleaning supplies, clothing, home decor, and other rescued items to give to community agencies. There will be two shifts per day, volunteers can choose to work one or two shifts per day.

We cannot accept any: Fresh or unpreserved items (meat, produce, diary, breads/grains, baked goods) Opened items where food is in contact with open air – can accept an open large package that contains smaller sealed packages (think box of peanut butter crackers from big box store where some of the packs are gone but some remain and are unopened) Items where the ingredients are not written in English – too much risk/liability with food allergies Homemade or self-wrapped items Partially used items (half bottle of ketchup, for example) Expired items

Join SCAD SERVE to help reclaim supplies donated to local community organizations and our Buzz Bus program. Volunteers will help collect new and gently used art supplies, non-perishable food, cleaning supplies, clothing, home decor, and other rescued items to give to community agencies. There will be two shifts per day, volunteers can choose to work one or two shifts per day.

Drinking water: We strongly recommend you bring drinking water in reusable containers.


Allergy medication: If you've experienced life-threatening allergic reactions to insects, please come prepared with your own emergency medicine, such as an auto-injector or oral medication. Please notify the coordinator of your need for medication in the case of an allergic attack.


You may also want: Sunscreen and bug spray as needed, snacks as needed (Covenant House will not provide any of these items)

Attire: Volunteers should wear closed-toe, closed-heel shoes (sneakers or work boots recommended) and long pants. Since some tasks involve refrigerated areas, bringing a sweatshirt or light jacket is advised. Be prepared to stand for extended periods and potentially lift boxes up to 40 pounds.

Transportation will be provided. The SCAD bus will depart from the Breezeway at 12:45 pm and return after the event. Please arrive on time to ensure an on-schedule departure.
